Delhi Library Association (DLA)
Delhi Library Association (DLA) is one of the oldest associations of India, established in 1939. It was driven by noble deeds of philanthropist like Sir John Philip Sargent, the then Education Secretary, Government of India, as President; Prof. Rai Bahadur Ram Kishore, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi as Senior Vice-President and Mr. Fasi Uddin Ahmad, the then Secretary of Hardinge Public Library as its General Secretary. DLA was later nurtured and strengthened for its library development and promotion by committed professionals of Library and Information Science namely, Padma Shree Prof. S R Rangantahan, the first Padma Shree and National Professor in India, Chaudhary Brahm Prakash, the first Chief Minister of Delhi, Dr. Inder Kumar Guajral, Former Prime Minister of India, Ms. Shanta Vashist, Member of Parliament, Prof S Dasgupta, PadmaShree Prof. P N Kaula, Prof. Girja Kumar, Prof.H.C. Jain, Prof. C P Vashishth, Mr. M LKachroo, Mr. C S Krishnamurti and many others and presently it is blossoming under the patronage of committed, dedicated and hardworking LIS Professionals namely, Dr. RK Sharma, Dr. KP Singh, Dr. Jnanendra Narayan Singh, Prof. Jaideep Sharma, Mr. Arun Kumar Shalia, Dr. (Ms.) Usha M Munshi, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. Rajesh Singh, Mr. Kumar Sanjay, Mr. Vinod Kumar Vijan, Dr. S K Bajpai, Mr. KC Manoj, Ms. Sudha Mukherjee, Mr. Satvir Singh Khasa, Dr. Ranjeet Singh Thakur, Mr. Madukar Rao, Dr. Rajesh Jha, Dr. Taruna Joshi and Mr. Rajesh Tiwari.
DLA has been playing a pivotal role through its varied academic, research and professional activities in the country since its inception. Few notable works are: (i) Imparting one-year certificate course in Library and Information Science since 1955 (C.Lib.Sc.) and Six month Diploma in Library and Information Technology (DLIT); (ii) Publishing most reputed Peer Reviewed Journal namely Library Herald since 1958; (iii) Continuously organizing three Lecture series namely Dr. SR Ranganathan Memorial Lecture , Prof. S Dasgupta Memorial Lecture and Prof. P N Kaula Memorial Lecture; (iv) Institution of annual awards namely - DLA – Life Times Achievements Award; DLA - Professional Excellence Award and Dr Ramesh Chandra Vashishth Best Paper Award appearing in each volume of Library Herald to LIS Professionals for their outstanding contribution (v) DLA also being recognized as Study Centre and Term Examination Centre of IGNOU for BLIS/MLIS and PGDLAN courses.
Satija Research Foundation for Library and Information Science (SRFLIS)
SRFLIS was founded in 2009 and registered under the Society Act XXI-1860, its headquarters held in Delhi which aims: to enhance the research and development activities in the field of library and information science.; to launch/sponsor/publish and distribute research and scholarly library literature; to organize seminars, workshops, competitions, training programmes and lectures in LIS; and to award scholarships to deserving and meritorious students and researchers. The Foundation successfully organized two high standard International Conferences in 2014 and 2015.
